Stories and patakíes
The one who removes the shadow and brings clarity
In the land of pele pele lived awo itana who had much work and dedicated himself to removing the bad things and the shadow of the eggun Buruku from everyone who needed it, doing oparaldo for them, but he did them without asking Orunmila if he could do it or not and this brought as a consequence that he suffered many setbacks and ailments and discomforts that he could not explain.
It was that the bad shadows of those people stuck to him and left him feeling dejected, but he, given his good heart, kept attending to everyone with owoo since owo.
Awo itana had a twins brother who was eggun and was called awo ikuku and lived in the shadows that were the land of oboshe dosun emu that was the land of yewa, where all the people covered themselves with ewe emu that was what almariwo was called, a land to which they went and from which they withdrew with the calls that Shango made by lighting the itanas: "itana lolo aberikuku oyo eggun fumi laulau".
And they came out of the shadows into the light of the itanas that Shango lighted for them and walked through the world covered with ewe emu working for Shango.
Awo ikuku, when he came from Ara Onu at Shango's call and by the light of the itanas, saw his brother awo itana's development in the land, suffered and cried when he saw the misfortunes this one went through.
One day awo itana was doing an oparaldo for an aleyo and when he lighted the itanas he saw that a shadow was approaching covered with ewe emu and sang: "awo itana boku Iku eggun Shango itana lolo eggun funi laulau".
Then he saw that his twin brother awo ikuku, who was an eggun from the land of yewa, told him: my brother, you have to give yewa an eya tuto to eat and you cook it with gofio and tomato and put it in the yabre (drain) of your house so that you plant the shadows of this land and we will protect and help you in everything.
You have to do this from time to time and give me an abojunto with Shango to eat.
Awo itana did it and his situation changed, he improved in health and became great in the land of pele pele, which was a land of calm and rest; but after a short time he forgot his brother's advice and, because he had a good heart, he began to attend again to the great problems of those people and went back to the same previous situation.
By that time awo already had an omo for whom he had made Ifa and that situation began to bother awo ikuku and one day when awo itana was doing an oparaldo for an aleyo that no other awo wanted to do for him and, as always, guided by his good heart, he had not asked Orunmila.
Awo ikuku appeared to him and told him: do not do that oparaldo, attend first, but awo itana, dominated by his good heart, did not listen to the advice and began to do it; at that moment awo ikuku told him: so that you suffer no more hardships and illnesses, I am taking you to my land, which is the land of yewa, where you are going to rest because it is the only way for your sufferings to end.
When awo itana's son saw his babare dead, he kneeled down and began to cry.
Awo ikuku appeared to him and told him: your father did not obey and you are the only one who can cleanse that fault with Orunmila, you have to give your Ifa a eure, but first you have to put ewe emu on Orunmila and he handed it to you and you put atare on it and give him eure and the Adie, but on the eure's horns you put my crown and my brother's, so that Orunmila's blessing may reach you.
Awo ikuko gave him aikordie meyi and told him: you must always use aikordie feathers in your ileke so that Olofin recognizes your obedience, you have to go to the land of Oshosi and take this there, and he took out an ada and an akatempo and you hand it over so that the arayes of this land cannot do anything to you.
You have to rest from time to time so that the bad shadows of the people of the land do not afflict you.
He did so and his power was great.
When he was on the way to his Ile carrying the inshe, his father and awo ikuku appeared to him and told him: "from today and every day of the land, when you light itana to eggun, Osha or Orunmila you have to cross your arms and ask awo itana and awo ikuku so that their things and their inshe are blessed by Orunmila and Shango".
From that day he was known as the one who removes the shadow and brings clarity by the power of Shango, awo itana and awo ikuku.
The path of obe's birth
Oggun and Elegba were awoses but Olofin always kept them at his feet so that they would attend to him alone, Orunmila and Shango were in the land trying to save humanity (the children of Olofin), but everything was useless.
Orunmila became sick with sadness and shame, Shango was sad to see Orunmila in those conditions, the plants and the animals were the same, Iku was the only one who lived and humanity kept getting lost.
Olofin spent his time praying and had Elegba and Oggun kneeling.
One day Oya looked down and saw how people were dying and began to flash lightning and shouted, Orunmila and Shango woke up at Oya's shouts, Shango ran out and began to throw fire at the land and Olofin got scared and asked what was happening, then he called Oya and she began to sing.
Shango kept throwing fire, the animals were biting one another, the herbs were fighting with one another, human beings were dying, Iku kept running.
Oya called Olofin so he could see what was happening and Olofin told Oggun and Elegba, keep kneeling, and he sent Oya to come down at once and gave her three turns and she began to throw fire out of her eyes and mouth, her hands began to tremble, she went down and told Shango: come up with me and Shango went up and entered Olofin's house and said: so that the world can be saved he has to give his Ashe and he sent for Orunmila; immediately after, Shango gave three bucking rounds, reached where Olofin's secret was and took the obe that Olofin had hidden and presented it to him.
Olofin got scared and said: what is this and Shango answered him: this is Olofin's salvation and Orunmila has to be sent for.
Immediately Olofin told Oyá; prepare everything to go where Orunmila.
Orunmila was making omiero for everything to bathe in the river.
He had a fish in front with ekru, olele, akara to eat, suddenly he felt something falling and it was Shangó who had thrown obe and it fell into the pot of omiero; Shangó told him, do not be afraid, this is so that you may end all the evils that exist in the world and humanity can live.
When Olofin arrived with Oggun and Elegba immediately Orunmila sent Shangó to put mariwo in all those places.
Oggun and Elegba came scared.
Then Oggun with what he had in his hand began to kill animals fighting with them.
The only animal he could not kill was abo.
Elegba was clearing the path, Olofin was scared and Orunmila told him: you have my children on their knees and punished, where Olofin started to sing and Olofin and Oggun began to drop obe.
Orunmila sent Shangó to go look for Elegba and he was singing.
Oggun stood up and had abo in his hands and Elegba had owunko yeure, they went where Olofin was and as Shangó ordered them when they arrived they gave abo to Shangó, Elegba carried owunko and Oggun eure and Elegba was singing: "moyuba lorisha, moyuba lorisha Ashe moyuba lorisha".
Olofin with 16 itanas in his hands began to sing and then Orunmila began to open Elegba's hands and told him: ewé serves to bath and humanity will be saved, he asked Elegba if he was going to fulfill the oath and he at once said yes.
