Terms of Use
These Terms govern the use of the Signos del Caracol application (hereinafter, «the application»). By downloading, registering for, or using it, you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the application.
1. Purpose
The application is a work of consultation and study of a cultural and religious nature about the diloggún —the cowrie-shell oracle of the Regla de Osha (Lucumí Santería)— and its signs: texts, patakíes, prayers, proverbs, analysis, advice, and interpretation tools. It also includes cultural and study material about the Regla de Palo Monte (Regla Conga). Osha and Palo are distinct religious traditions and are presented as such within the application.
2. License of use
The user is granted a personal, limited, revocable, and non-transferable license to use the application and its content for personal, non-commercial purposes. No ownership right over the content is transferred.
3. Nature of the content (important notice)
The content is intended for cultural, educational, and study purposes. It does not replace consultation with an oriaté or an olorisha (santero), nor any traditional ceremony, and does not constitute medical, psychological, legal, or financial advice. For any health, legal, or financial problem, consult a qualified professional. Any decisions you make based on the content are your sole responsibility.
Documentary and ancestral nature. The texts in the application —including works, ebó, ceremonies, rites, and any reference to offerings or sacrifices— are ethnographic and cultural-heritage documentation of Afro-Cuban religious traditions transmitted orally over centuries. They are collected and presented for exclusively documentary, cultural, and study purposes, in order to preserve and understand that knowledge.
The author and the application do not incite, promote, encourage, or instruct the practical performance of any rite, offering, or sacrifice, nor do they provide operational instructions for carrying them out. The application describes and documents a tradition; it is not an execution manual. In particular, the assistant Akín does not indicate or explain how to perform animal sacrifices.
Any ritual practice is the sole and personal responsibility of whoever decides to perform it, corresponds solely to a duly initiated priest and must be carried out in person —an oriaté or olorisha in the case of Osha, or a tata or yaya nganga in the case of Palo— and is subject to the laws in force in each country, including animal-protection and welfare regulations. The user undertakes not to perform any practice that infringes applicable law.
4. User account
If you create an account, you are responsible for the accuracy of your data and for keeping your credentials confidential. The account is personal and non-transferable; shared use may lead to its suspension.
5. Acceptable use
The user undertakes not to:
- copy, reproduce, redistribute, or publish the content except as permitted;
- use the application for unlawful purposes or to harm third parties;
- attempt to access unauthorized systems, data, or features;
- carry out reverse engineering or automated data extraction.
6. Akín assistant (artificial intelligence)
The application includes Akín, an assistant based on artificial intelligence that helps to understand Osha and Palo. Its answers may contain errors or inaccuracies and are orientative and for study purposes: they are not a ritual determination or a personal reading, and do not replace a priest. You must not make important decisions based solely on what it answers. The text of your questions is processed as explained in the Privacy Policy.
7. Intellectual property
All content is protected. See the document «Content Protection and Intellectual Property», which forms an integral part of these Terms.
8. Subscriptions
Some features and content require a paid subscription. The conditions of contracting, renewal, cancellation, and refund are detailed in the document «Subscriptions and Refunds Policy».
9. Availability and changes
The application is provided «as is» and may be updated, modified, or discontinued. We strive for its correct operation, but we do not guarantee that it will be error-free or available without interruption.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, the owner shall not be liable for indirect damages or damages arising from the use of, or the inability to use, the application or its content.
11. Suspension
We may suspend or cancel access in the event of breaches of these Terms, in particular of the intellectual-property and account-use rules.
12. Applicable law
These Terms are governed by Spanish law. For any dispute, the parties submit to the courts and tribunals that correspond under the applicable consumer regulations.
13. Contact
For any question about these Terms, you can write through the contact channels indicated in the application’s store listing.
