Stories and patakíes
The lie of Oggun and Oshosi
In Obatala's kingdom, the people were passing hardships because there was a great shortage, but the aleyos brought him roosters, hens and other things so Obatala had food in abundance and safely.
Then Shango, Oggun and Oshosi agreed and proposed to Obatala a partnership in which they would be in charge of finding food for everyone and at the same time Obatala would give them the food he had.
They ate and then went off to the forest to look for the part that belonged to them.
Oggun found a goat and ate it; Shango found a rat and ate it too, Oshosi found a hutia and did the same with the hope of bringing Obatala everything else they found.
But it happened that after so much wandering they could not find anything else and had to return empty-handed.
When they faced Obatala, Oggun and Oshosi told him lies, but only Shango was the one who told him the truth.
He had found a rat and that he had eaten it because he was hungry.
But suspicious Obatala said: “to iban echu” and through this virtue he made them vomit everything they had eaten.
Where Obatala verified Shango's truth.
And from then on he is great on earth and in heaven and has a king's crown for being the only one who told the truth.
The clean kingdom
The story says that there was a town that was quite prosperous, but they started burning a lot of trash which caused a lot of smoke.
Obatala also lived there and that is why prosperity reigned in that place, and he was happy because everything was welfare and wealth.
Obatala did not like smoke, nor odors nor noise, so he could not stand it anymore and left that place.
Obatala did nothing more than leave the town and that was enough for the effects of shortage and setbacks to begin to be felt; all the merchants complained because they sold nothing, not even enough to live on and so it was all in general.
Then one decided to go look for elegua and he was read and saw this sign and told him: that everything that was happening there was because the trash was smoking a lot and that the smoke was the cause of the delay, that they had to avoid that and make Ebbo with: one Akuko, two Eyele, enough ashes, house trash and water so that prosperity would return again.
The obedient one did what they were told, and when he threw the Ebbo on the big, wide road, a downpour came upon him and the ashes made a very beautiful white path.
Obatala went out for a walk and passed by that place, which he no longer even remembered because since he had left that town he had not gone back through such a beautiful road.
So he arrived at the town from which he had had to leave for inconvenience and when he arrived he found that the devotees were waiting for him and had cleaned the houses, Obatala was very happy and in that way prosperity returned; everything that was breathed being flowers.
