Stories and patakíes

The seeds of salvadera

Obatala went for a walk and the sky became cloudy and it started to drizzle and he sheltered under a lush salvadera tree.

Suddenly Obatala heard a loud crack and, scared, he ran out, and he got wet with the rain; along the way he looked back and saw how the salvadera seeds were bursting and they were the ones producing the noise that frightened him, and Obatala cursed the salvadera for having gotten wet with rainwater.

The road where darkness speaks

On this road there was a man who was a priest and did not attend to the saints because he had turned away from the saints to dedicate himself to another profession.

One day, while he was in public giving a speech, someone threw things at him and whistled at him, it being a mulatto woman who had had dealings with him and had become his worst enemy.

This woman did him all the harm she could and wherever she went she slandered him.

Then the priest's affairs began to go bad, to the extent that he did not know how he was going to solve that problem; one day, when he was most downcast, he met Elegba, who asked him what was happening to him, and he explained the situation.

Then Elegba told him to go to a diviner's house; when he looked at him he told him that he had to make Ebbo and that he also had to attend to the saints, mainly Oshun, and that he had to return to his priestly life.

The priest heard the advice and did everything to the letter, and that is how he was able to solve his problems and rid himself of the arayes.

Note

Oshun is angry with the person because of his behavior, so, two hens must be given to her and she must be attended to; in addition, collaterally, the other saints must be attended to.

It raises a total change of life for the person, including a change of job, where the person has to practice his former profession.
