Stories and patakíes

The wild cactus

There was a time when the wild cactus had no thorns and lived among the big and the small.

The cactus did not prosper because the animals, when passing by it and lying down, would knock down its children.

It went to consult, lamenting what was happening to it.

Orunmila told it that it had to do Ebbo and immediately began to make a series of incisions in its body, giving it eyerbale in them, and with a preparation he had, he began putting into said incisions some thorns and as time went by, every time a child was born, it already had thorns, so the enemies who knocked down its children did not go near it.

Thus its family prospered and, having been abandoned by everyone, it became alone, that is why the best place it lives is in the desert.

Time passed and Orunmila found himself involved in a great war in which he was being outdone by his adversaries, and in such circumstances he remembered the favor he had done for the wild cactus and turned to it.

The cactus, however, indifferent to the that Orunmila was proposing to her, he told her that it was impossible for him to help her.

And before this ungrateful attitude, Orunmila had no other alternative but to remind her of the favor he had done for her.

The fox, upon hearing this, had no choice but to go with him to help him defeat his enemies.

Note

On this path it is indicated that the person is ungrateful and that when they resolve their problem they forget the favor that was done for them.

The fox and the fleas

Tale

In this path the fox had a lot of wool and a thick tail, and they told her to make Ebbo and she did not want to do it.

After a long time a flea came and got into her ear, she started scratching and paid no attention to it.

A little while later another flea came that turned out to be male and they started breeding and the fox could not stay still because of the amount of fleas she had on top of her, for which she was always scratching and running from one side to the other.

Already tired of suffering so much she went to consult and they told her

– You are suffering hardships and running from one side to the other and for this to go away, that araye has to make Ebbo and take it to the Ile of ibu losa.

Then the fox replied

– But with this I am not going to remove the araye and everything I have.

Orunmila told her

– Try to make Ebbo and you will see.

So the fox did and when taking the Ebbo to the Ile ibu losa, Oshun already knew what was happening, the fox was carrying a little bell and upon reaching the riverbank she rang it, and Oshun, who was waiting for her, told her:

– Get in here and pass over there, nothing will happen to you.

So the fox did and the fleas went away all the way to the head, then all the tail, and in this way she was left clean of everything.

Then Orunmila told her that whenever that happened to her, she should do the same.
