Stories and patakíes

The evils of Eshu

.

There was a farmer who had a large planting of swiss chard, cabbages and malangas.Everyone envied him.

One day Eshu came and asked him for food and the farmer, since he did not know him, answered him that he did not have his crops to give away.

Eshu went away, but the next day he came back disguised and when he arrived he began to say that the king had ordered all the crops destroyed because they were harming health.

Then the farmer became so enraged that without committing himself to anyone he said: the king said that?

Well, I do not expect him to destroy my crops, he took his machete and he himself ended his crops or vegetable garden.

The next day the farmer thought that he should not have acted that way without first going to see the king.

Immediately after, he went before the sovereign who told him that he had not ordered such a barbarity and that it was pure malice of Eshu, who was hungry.

Note: on this path you have to give a rooster to Eshu, so that there will be no misfortune.

And when fore comes, the one who arrives from the street is the one of the tragedy.

When the good lived with the bad

.

On this path Obatala was very worried because the good lived together with the bad on earth; Olokun, who knew what was happening, was in agreement and happy that things were like that.

One time Obatala met with Olokun and they began to talk and Obatala told Olokun that the good should not live with the bad, Olokun answered him badly: you are never satisfied with anything baba.

Obatala left very upset and Olokun had Eshu called and gave him a mask and did the same with Oya and yewa and then had Shango called and when he came before him he rejected the mask and went out on the road and after a while he saw Elegba with the mask on, but he recognized him at once by his legs and his long nails and began to sing to elegbara; when he found out he had been discovered he took off the mask.

Shango was carrying an Akuko on whose head he had painted on one side pupu and on the other fun fun and when he was presented to elegbara he was frightened but then he told him: I would like to eat it; Shango answered him: I will give it to you so you can eat it, but on condition that you take from Oya and yewa the masks that Olokun gave them, as well as that you take from Olokun all the masks he has.

After elegbara agreed, he told him: first you will go to Olokun's house with this Akuko before eating it.

So elegbara did it and when he arrived at Olokun's house he knocked the door three times hard and when he came out, on seeing the Akuko that elegbara was carrying, he was frightened and hid.

Elegbara took advantage of the occasion, entered the house and stole the masks he found there and when he went out through the door there were Shango and Oduduwa who took away the masks, ripped the Akuko's head off and gave it to elegbara.

They threw the Akuko's head into the sea.

When Olokun realized that elegbara had stolen the masks he ran out to follow him, but he found the Akuko's head, got frightened and stopped pursuing him.

Shango and Oduduwa met with Iku and handed over the masks and told him: elegbara still has two more masks to hand you.

Olokun went to see Olofin to tell him what had happened with elegbara, while Iku, warned by Shango and Oduduwa, waited for elegbara on the road and when she saw that he was coming with Oya's and yewa's masks, she hid behind a siguaraya bush, from which she plucked three branches and when elegbara was passing, she hit him with the branches and snatched the two masks away from him, and he, frightened, ran to Olofin's house, who, on seeing him arrive out of breath, said: do not tell me what has happened because I know everything and I am going to reward you by giving you this Ashe, elegbara, from today you will carry all the bad in the world and you will only do good when Shango orders you to.

Olofin gave elegbara a fila (cap) half red and half white and told him: you will always wear it and elegbara returned to earth bringing all the bad, and then everything began to rot and when Oduduwa saw this he went to tell Olofin and also told him that the only one who could fix that problem was Shango.

Olofin called Shango and ordered him to bring the good to earth and he said: father, on earth there must be half good and half bad, Olofin gave him Ashe and sentenced: to iban Eshu (so be it).

For his part when Elegba arrived on earth to do evil he met with Iku and they allied, and the white and red cap was the identification so that Iku would not harm elegbara.

When Shango arrived on earth he snatched the white and red cap and set out to run, elegbara fell behind him and this one met with Iku who, not recognizing him, began to chase him and saw that Shango was running ahead of elegbara.

Shango stopped and ordered elegbara to stop and Iku stopped too, the three made a pact and Shango said: "you Elegba will do evil and when I order you will do good", Iku spoke and said: and how will this be known, Shango?

Shango answered him: good is a little ball and evil is a line; evil is the day, good is the night.

Shango gave the cap back to elegbara and in the world the good continued living with the bad.
