Stories and patakíes
The ever-living
On earth the ever-living was a plant considered the weakest, since when they stepped on it, it died.
It was a day when obbatalá was there so it could give her power and obbatalá told it: from today you will live forever.
But obbatalá had a neighbor who was his enemy and did not let him be at peace.
The ever-living, in gratitude, went to that neighbor's house to ask him to leave obbatalá alone, the neighbor got angry, and gave it a beating and threw it into the mud.
After the beating, he told it: now go so obbatalá can cure you.
The neighbor left, but when he got home he found it covered by an enormous ever-living vine.
He went in angrily and took a machete, chopped it up and put it in the sun.
The next day, what was his surprise when he saw a mass of ever-living that barely let him pass.
Furious, he pulled it up and threw it into the river, so it would rot, but the next day the ever-living had covered the entire river, and in such a way that only it could be seen everywhere.
Obbatalá's enemy, when he saw that, went to step on the covered river and sank into the mud; the more he struggled to get out, the more he sank into the mud, until he drowned.
Thus the ever-living vanquished obbatalá's enemy.
The two brothers
On this path there were two brothers who liked to bath in the river; once their mother told one of them not to go to the river because she had dreamed he would not come back from there, this one was proud and impudent and did nothing in the house, she told the other he could go because he was obedient and good, and for this reason the disobedient brother became envious of the other and every day he wished bad things for his brother.
Elegba, who heard everything, decided to punish the impudent one, and a few days later a great storm appeared that swept away the logs and trees and there was a strong wind, and Elegba considered that it was the moment to give the boy a lesson.
Elegba went to the bank of the turbulent river to draw the attention of the two brothers, and he told them that he had seen a thing pass by in the current that had great virtue and that whoever possessed it would have great power, and he called the obedient boy and told him: jump in, nothing will happen to you, and when you come out with what is in the river you will have a fortune and will be envied by everyone, the boy without thinking jumped in and came out full of riches and fortunes.
The other without thinking, when he saw his brother with the riches he brought, jumped in and never came out of there again.
Elegba had talked with Oshun and told her what he wanted to do with the disobedient one, Oshun made him her slave and only let him climb up on the stone that was in the middle of the river, and when he wanted to go to the bank Oshun would not let him because she would take him to the bottom.
