Stories and patakíes
The embarrassment
In a land there was a character called oye, who decided to marry a woman from her own tribe, but in that tribe it was customary that before getting married one had to go to be registered with the diviners; there also existed the custom that when women got married, they had to take out or put up a flag as a sign that they were no longer young ladies.
When oye went to register the diviners saw this Ifa and told him that he had to do Ebbo with Akuko, opolopo owo and other ingredients so that his penis would not make him look bad and therefore there would not be a great scandal.
Oye, who was a very frugal person, did not want to do the Ebbo, since he said that his penis was fine and therefore he did not believe what the diviners had told him.
When oye got married, as is natural, he took his bride to his house, but it happened that he could not have sexual relations with the bride because as the diviners had warned him, his penis did not work.
Then the bride the next day could not take out the flag that all the young ladies took out, to bear witness that they were already married women.
People began to murmur about oye's wife, but she kept patiently waiting, but when she saw the days go by and he kept in the same situation, she had no choice but to leave him and explain to the tribe what was happening, in order to preserve her honor, and so she came out clean of blame.
The people there, later, when they passed in front of oye's house would shout: “here lives oye, who is dead from the waist down”.
Thus, for not spending the owo, oye was left embarrassed before his tribe.
There are many more important things than money
At one time iwin (the slug) went to be registered and they saw this Ifa, where it said that she should do Ebbo so that they would respect her; but she said that her money was not going to be thrown away on that since she was not a believer and therefore she did absolutely nothing, and on the contrary she went around speaking badly of the awoses.
That is why from that time to now nobody respects the slug, the people pick it up with their hands without fear that anything will happen to them, since all the world knows that it has nothing with which to defend itself.
